What's New in v5.40
1) MPLAB X IDE now a 64-bit application only. This version cannot be run on 32-bit operating systems; 64-bit operating systems are required.
2) MPASM no longer included in install. MPASM toolchain is 32-bit and is no longer supported. Therefore, you will see a message on opening the IDE that there is no toolchain installed.
3) Devices and Tools decoupled from MPLAB X IDE releases. As of v5.40 and future versions, you can update/switch device and tool support by updating/switching device family packs (DFPs) and related tool packs (TPs). Because of changes to the DFPs and TPs, you cannot switch between v5.40 and v5.35 or previous versions.
4) Project groups. Group projects (File>Group Projects), which can be useful when developing applications and bootloaders.
5) Bootstrap configurator now included. kconfig is now available in the IDE for editing bootloader files (at91bootloader) for MPU32 and other devices.
6) OpenJDK now used. See Java Platform and Operating System Information.
